“That’s who actors are – the happiest, saddest people you’ll ever meet”
A colourful and complicated actress makes her emotional farewell performance as people from her life invade her dressing room. They say their goodbyes, declare their love, roar with laughter, spit insults, grab a final embrace, and renew old battles.
Whilst most of the action takes place in Lydia’s (the actress) dressing room, we also see parts of her final performance in The Cherry Orchard.
A touching comedy from the author of Glorious! and Boyband.
Lydia Martin: A great part for a strong female actor. A famous and successful actress, Lydia is feisty and funny but also sad and emotional. Also plays Lubov in scenes from The Cherry Orchard. Needs to smoke on stage (40s/50s)
Katherine: Lydia’s dresser. Admires Lydia and acts as an unofficial confidante and friend (30s/40s)
Nicole: Lydia’s daughter. Loves her mother but has always been irritated by her fame. Needs to smoke on stage (20s/30s)
Charles: Lydia’s fiancée. Wealthy and older than Lydia yet “with a twinkle in his eye”. Also plays Lopakhin in scenes from The Cherry Orchard (50s)
Margaret: The Company Manager. Exasperated with Lydia (40s)
Paul: Lydia’s handsome ex-husband. They had a fiery and passionate past and he can’t quite let go of her. Also plays Gaev in scenes from The Cherry Orchard (40s)
Harriet: Lydia’s long-standing agent. Can’t accept that Lydia, her best client, is retiring. Needs to smoke on stage (40s/50s)
