Paige has had enough. Enough of the banalities of modern life, and definitely enough of her narcissistic philosopher husband. Determined to take back control, she invites an intriguing collection of guests to a dinner party they won’t forget. As surreal dishes are served, eccentric personalities collide and an unexpected visitor sends the evening spiralling deliciously out of control. Dinner is a darkly comic, wickedly sharp satire of marriage, manners and middle-class pretensions, where revenge isn’t just served cold — it comes with an amuse-bouche.

BLT actively encourages auditionees from ethnic minority communities and any of the below parts could be played by any race.

You do not have to be a member of the company to audition, but if you are cast you must join.

Characters

Paige - Paige has prepared an evening of vicious delights for the people who drove her to this point. She is ruthless, calm, and collected, with a flair for the dramatic. There is movement required for this role. Please prepare 30-60 seconds of dancing to FKA Twigs’ “Cellophane” (this is not the song for the play, but it is vibes-adjacent). Some intimacy required. Playing age 25 to 35. Female presenting

Lars - Smug, self-centred, philosopher Lars has a high opinion of himself and considerably less for everyone else. Married to Paige, he is having an affair with Wynn and has no idea as to the deeper meaning of the night’s festivities. Drinks neat whiskey aged a minimum of 12 years. Some intimacy required. Playing age 30 to 40. Male presenting.

Wynn - Welsh ingénue Wynn is an unwitting pawn in Paige’s machinations. Polite, lovely, and a bit out of her depth. Her drink of choice is almost definitely an Aperol Spritz. Some intimacy required. Playing age 25 to 35. Female presenting.

Sian - ”Sexpot” (the script’s word) ice queen (my words) Sian is aloof and self-assured. She would drink champagne, but never prosecco. Playing age 25 to 35. Female presenting.

Mike - Working class Mike is an unexpected guest whose arrival disrupts the night’s plans. Laconic and unwilling to engage with the middle class niceties the rest of the group cling to. A foil to the more pretentious Lars and an ally for Paige. Probably drinks lager and jäger shots. Some intimacy required. Playing age 20 to 30. Male presenting.

Hal - Nice but ineffectual Hal can’t bring himself to swear in public. Posh and harmless Hal probably wears rugby shirts and drinks real ale, and could hold a long but boring conversation on both those topics. Playing age 25 to 35. Male presenting.

Waiter - This is a somewhat thankless role as the waiter is present on stage throughout the show but only has about four lines. I have added in some singing: if you are auditioning for the Waiter please prepare a song (bass/tenor). His drink of choice would be milk spiked with lsd. Some intimacy required. Playing age 30+. Male presenting.
