She Stoops to Conquer
11th - 15th July @ BLT
27th - 30th July @ BOAT
A year ago, I wasn’t expecting to be directing She Stoops to Conquer! For various reasons there was a last minute change of plan which left me swiftly racing upstairs at home to check my bookshelves for a play to put on at BLT and BOAT. Nervously running my fingers along my many plays on three sets of shelves I alighted on Oliver Goldsmith’s 18th century classic and the rest, as they say, is history.
Choosing She Stoops to Conquer has been one of my better life decisions. I have enjoyed the support of an immensely talented and dedicated cast and crew who are making the journey not only rewarding but also great fun.
I have also been blessed with the talent of Michael James, who has composed music especially for the show; Julia Goss, who has penned fresh and funny verse for the Prologue and Epilogue (I’m sure Oli G won’t mind), and Patti Griffiths who, as well as having lots of lines to learn, has choreographed a nippy dance routine and created a range of super period wigs.
Steven Adams set is fantastic and Margaret Skeet, Ann Atkins and Ellie Medhurst have kitted out the cast in a range of resplendent costumes. Bev Grover will be lighting the show for us and not forgetting our trusty Stage Manager, Janet White and ASM, Martyn Coates. Oh yes, and Mimi Goddard is putting her handicraft skills to work making two rather special props … they’re a secret!
Book your tickets now and join us for colour, fast paced fun and lots of laughs!
She Stoops to Conquer opens on Tuesday 11th July and runs through until Saturday 15th July at BLT and from 27th – 30th July at BOAT with evening performances on Thursday 27th - Saturday 29th July at 7.00pm (gates open at 6pm for picnics) and matinee performances on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July at 2.00pm (gates open at 1pm for picnics)
