Minack Information

For those who have never been the Minack before it’ll be useful to know the following:-

Accommodation

is provided for free by BLT and is generally thought to be more than adequate and very comfortable. We hire a number of flats and houses and cast and crew et al are distributed through the hired accommodation in, we hope, a harmonious manner. As far as possible we aim to mix ‘newbies’ and ‘oldbies’ so that previous knowledge of the Minack can be on tap to all. Thus far all the secured accommodation is within Porthcurno itself but we may have to look further afield depending on the size of the final cast/crew et al.

Everyone will have their own room but partners who are both involved in the production would share a room.

Most rooms are double/twin and some are single within most of the flats/houses. For 2019, and most unusually, we have two one bedroom flats available so if anyone particularly would like this option please let me know.

If you would like to bring a partner, and there are sufficient double rooms available (never been a problem before), this is possible. If they are willing to help (programme selling for every performance, clearing the seats of debris post performance and shopping for and setting up lunch on the Sunday), they are welcome to come and not contribute to the costs. If they would like to come for, essentially, a holiday or there are not enough helper slots, they are also welcome, but we would ask for a £50 contribution towards costs. If your partner wants to come for just a short stay eg 2/3 days then they can stay in your room for free.

Transport

is provided by way of car sharing. We organise this once we know the cast etc and who has car availability. We’d aim to have one car per accommodation but generally there are enough cars spread about for people to join up and explore the area when there is time. A payment is made at the end of the week by bank transfer to the car owners to cover an average journey to and from Porthcurno. Petrol used during the week is usually organised within small groups who chip in to petrol expenses on an ad hoc basis depending on how much galivanting they do. For those involved in the show there is not actually that much galivanting time to be honest.

Company seats (not free)

If you have any friends or family coming to see the show the Minack reserve 20 seats per performance for us and need to know our requirements by Sunday or Monday morning of show week latest through the BLT tour manager (name to be firmed up later).

Tickets at the Minack can sell out so, if you have friends coming they will be able to have reserved good seats at relatively late notice (which they still have to pay for) as long as we let the Minack know by Sunday or Monday morning of show week latest. After that the company seats will go on general sale.

rough guide to the week

Saturday – Arrive mid-afternoon (accurate time nearer the time)  for the get in and to rehearse. The get in needs everyone to help to carry all our props, set and costume down the many, many, many, many…and then some more steps…to the dressing rooms and set store. The good news is that it is all downhill so gravity helps.

Sunday – Rehearse all day. Lunch provided. Evening Dress rehearsal.

Monday – Keep free for Rehearsal. Evening performance.

Tuesday -  Matinee and evening performance

Wednesday – Usually free time unless the production needs any work (rarely happens). Evening performance.

Thursday  - Matinee and evening performance

Friday - Usually free time unless the production needs any work (never happened before). Evening performance.

Saturday – 10.00. EVERYONE needs to pitch up ON TIME for the get out (notice the use of capitals). The get out is a very big job made smaller if everyone helps. Gravity helped the get in. The get out is ALL UP HILL. Seriously, the last team effort for the get out is really important and so PUNCTUALITY for the final push is VITAL. (More capitals). Hangovers are not acceptable excuses.

12.00 Group photo at the top and then, joyfully smiling through the tears, we drive back to Brighton.
