About the Shows
Nell Gwynn
London, 1660. King Charles II has exploded onto the scene with a love of all things loud, extravagant and sexy and at Drury Lane, a young Nell Gwynn is causing stirrings amongst the theatregoers. Nell Gwynn charts the rise of an unlikely heroine, from her roots in Coal Yard Alley to her success as Britain's most celebrated actress, and her hard-won place in the heart of the King. At a time when women are second-class citizens, can her charm and spirit protect her from the dangers of the Court?
Hiawatha
Now is the time for peace: a time to silence the war cries with a joining of the nations, with an offering of the peace pipe, dancing, tom-toms and a great story ready to be told beneath the great tipi. Gitchee Manito, the great prophet in the sky, Lord of all tribes, has spoken; now let the story begin. Hiawatha, based on the Longfellow poem, is an epic saga set on the shores of Gitche Gumee, ‘The Big Sea Water’, (Lake Superior), where Hiawatha is trying to prepare the Chippewa tribe for the coming of the white man.
