Mary Stuart @ BOAT

“Do not forget that nothing stands forever…”  Mary Stuart is imprisoned in England.  Elizabeth I hesitates over the signing of the death warrant that will end her life.  A disastrous meeting is arranged between the two women leading to the last days of Mary Stuart and, finally, her elevation as a martyr.

The meeting never happened but, as Goethe said, “It will be good to see those two whores alongside each other”.  Schiller's Mary redeems her youthful crimes through an ordeal that lifts her into realms of spiritual serenity, while Elizabeth descends deeper into rage, revenge and deception.

Oswald’s striking new adaptation, written in a mix of prose and poetry, brings to life this imagined meeting and explores the characters of two of history’s most iconic figures.

You Can’t Take it With You
At first the Sycamore family seem quite mad, but it is not long before we realise that if they are mad, the rest of the world is even madder. In contrast to the Sycamores are the stuffy and snobbish Kirbys. The play tells how Tony, the attractive young son of the hugely wealthy Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore. The Kirbys have been invited to dinner to meet the Alice’s family, and much to her dismay they duly arrive… on the wrong night.

The Magical Voyage of Ullysses
T
roy has fallen ... The captains and the kings depart, some like Nestor to a happy homecoming, others like Agamemnon to a bloody one. Ulysses is condemned to ten years exile for offending the gods during the siege. The story of his wanderings is well known from Homer's Odyssey, here providing a marvellous stimulant to the youthful imagination.

Absurd Person Singular

Meet three couples in their three kitchens on the Christmas Eves of three successive years. The "lower class" but very much up and coming Hopcrofts are in their bright new, gadget filled kitchen anxiously giving a little party for their bank manager and his wife and an architect neighbor. Next there are the architect and his wife in their neglected, untidy flat. Then the bank manager and his wife are in their large, slightly modernized, old Victorian style kitchen. Running like a dark thread through the wild comedy of behind the scenes disasters at Christmas parties is the story of the advance of the Hopcrofts to material prosperity and independence and the decline of the others.

Hello/Goodbye

Who the hell says 'ergo'? Whilst breaking into someone's flat?
What kind of person does that?

Alex, an introverted amateur collector who “likes things ordered and alphabetised and preferably laminated”, and Juliet, an impetuous whirlwind of a woman with a questionable history of past relationships, move into a flat they each think they’re renting alone... This chic, fast moving, extremely funny play is a modern metropolitan guide to falling in (and out) of love.
